LESCO Tariff

When we use a service or utilise anything, we need to pay for it. In the case of LESCO, consumers use electricity and are charged for it. This is called the LESCO Tariff, which varies by consumer type. Domestic consumers are charged lower rates than commercial or industrial users. Moreover, domestic consumers are also subdivided into categories based on their consumption.

Lifeline users are those who consume up to 100 units over the last 12 consecutive months. They are charged at nominal rates and are the most protected consumers. Consumers who consume up to 200 units over the last six consecutive months are termed protected consumers.  They are charged less; the government subsidises their electricity bills.

Next are unprotected consumers who consume more than 200 units in a month and are charged more than protected consumers. The tariff is different for commercial, industrial, and agricultural consumers. It mainly changes with the sanctioned load and consumption. They pay based on their consumption during peak and off-peak hours.

Peak/Off-Peak Hours

When electricity consumption is high, it is referred to as peak hours. It is a time when most users use electricity. It increases the burden on the national grid, resulting in higher prices. These hours change with the weather. Here is a table representing the peak hours for different seasons of the year:
